About Amara Frenchies

What started as a childhood dream eventually became a deeper calling—rooted in advocacy, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to canine welfare.

Welcome.

My name is Jana, and I’m the founder of Amara Frenchies.

My love for dogs began early. As a kid, I pored over breed standards, histories, and traits, dreaming of one day breeding and showing Doberman Pinschers. That dream changed forever when I lost a beloved Doberman to heart failure at a young age.

That loss revealed something I had never been taught: that many purebred dogs carry significant inherited risks tied to limited gene pools and long-standing breeding practices that often prioritize appearance and tradition over health.

Determined to understand more, I immersed myself in research and discovered just how widespread genetic disease is across many breeds. I stepped away from my dream of breeding for years, wrestling with the ethics of producing dogs in systems that didn’t consistently center long-term wellbeing.

Yet my love for dogs never faded.

I became deeply interested in intentional outcrossing and other strategies designed to increase genetic diversity, resilience, and longevity—approaches that place function and health first. At the same time, I continued exploring whether it might be possible to work within a purebred framework responsibly, using emerging tools and better data.

Then I met my first French Bulldog.

Like many people, I was instantly captivated by their charm. I was also aware of the breed’s health reputation, which pushed me to research extensively before adopting. Through that process, I discovered modern genetic testing and advanced health screening programs that allow breeders to make far more informed decisions than ever before.

When I brought home Ferdinand, I expected challenges.

Instead, I found myself living with one of the healthiest, most vibrant dogs I had ever owned.

That experience—combined with access to better tools and a clearer ethical framework—gave me the confidence to step forward into breeding with intention.

Amara Frenchies was born from the belief that it is possible to breed French Bulldogs responsibly -

when health, temperament, and integrity come first.

While we appreciate the value of breed club standards and strive to produce beautiful dogs, these values will always remain secondary to the health, functional soundness, and long-term wellbeing of our French Bulldogs.

Our program is built on:

  • Genetic Diversification

  • Comprehensive health testing

  • Thoughtful pairing and selection

  • Prioritization of healthy bodies and brains over a silhouette

  • A commitment to growth and responsible innovation as better information becomes available

We are taking things one step at a time, moving forward only when we believe we’re contributing positively to the future of the breed. So far we have exceeded expectations.

We love Frenchies and we are honored to share that love with the world.

Thank you for being here, and for joining us on this grand adventure!
